Looking after your Scrapeater
- With normal usage, your Scrapeater won't require any special care. The motor is permanently lubricated and does not need oiling.
- If the disposer starts to smell, grinding a tray of ice cubes in the disposer will help clean the grinding components.
- Grinding a lemon, cut into quarters, will give your disposer a fresh, clean smell.
Fixing a jam
- While your Robinhood Scrapeater will have no problem grinding food waste, overloading may occasionally cause the unit to jam.
- An overload protector prevents the disposer from running during a jam.
- If an overload or jam occurs, turn off the disposer and remove the foreign matter or food waste.
- Insert the hexagonal wrench that was supplied with the disposer into the opening at the bottom of the motor shaft; rotate the tool clockwise, then anti-clockwise for a couple of turns.
- Wait five to ten minutes, then push the red reset button on the bottom of the disposer. Restart the machine.
A quick guide to grinding
- Always run the tap while grinding.
- Do not attempt to grind hard bones or any type of metal, plastic, glass or crockery.
- Avoid very fibrous materials, such as corn cobs and banana skins.
- Do not pour dye or drain cleaner solutions down the disposer.
